BESS development to RTB
We develop energy storage projects from site selection to RTB (Ready to Build) status: with legal title to the land, grid connection conditions, decisions and a final building permit. The investor receives a project ready for financing and construction.

Grid connection conditions for energy storage
Grid connection conditions are issued by the operator of the network the storage system will connect to: the DSO for the distribution grid or the TSO for the transmission grid. They set the connection point and capacity and the scope of work on the operator’s and the investor’s side. Without them a BESS project cannot reach ready-to-build (RTB) status.
Application for connection conditions
The operator’s form with attachments and an advance payment towards the connection fee, where required.
Request to complete the application
If a document or data is missing. We supply it so the case does not stall.
Grid impact assessment
Where required, the operator assesses how the storage system will affect the grid. The result shapes the connection point and scope.
Connection conditions and draft agreement
Connection point and capacity, scope of grid works, metering and control requirements. Or a refusal where technical or economic conditions for connection are lacking.
Connection agreement
Signed while the conditions are valid. It sets out, among other things, the connection fee and the completion date.
Update of connection conditions
If equipment or storage parameters change, we apply to the operator for an update of the conditions.
The operator has a statutory deadline for issuing the conditions, counted from submission of a complete application. The conditions are valid for a limited period, within which the connection agreement has to be signed. That is why a complete application and correct parameters set the pace of the whole project.
What goes into the application
- Application on the operator’s form
- Document confirming legal title to the property
- Extract from the local zoning plan or a zoning decision
- Site plan showing the storage location and the proposed connection point
- Technical parameters: connection capacity, storage capacity, charging and discharging profile
- Proof of the advance payment towards the connection fee, where required
- Power of attorney if VGEC files on the investor’s behalf
What VGEC does
- Choose the connection capacity and assess possible connection points
- Prepare the application with attachments and file it with the operator
- Handle correspondence with the DSO or TSO and any requests to complete the file
- Review the conditions issued and the draft connection agreement
- Apply for updates when equipment or parameters change
- Prepare the detailed design of the grid connection
